Two parties responsible for sectarian altercations… Arms issue needs internal dialogue

The Lebanese National Bloc Party said that two parties are responsible for yesterday’s sectarian altercations: On the one hand intruders looking for a role with infiltrators raising the arms issue, and on the other hand, the parties in power that are seeking to play the victim’s role to continue destroying the state.  In a statement, the Bloc reiterated that the issue of weapons outside the jurisdiction of the state can only be solved through internal dialogue.

Below is the full statement:

We stand firmly on our position about the solution beginning with the formation of an independent sovereign government with expanded powers.  What happened yesterday was a distortion of this national demand by two parties: On the one hand intruders looking for a role with infiltrators raising the arms issue, and on the other hand, the parties in power that are seeking to play the victim’s role while making the revolution look like the executioner, in order to continue with their quota systems and to completely destroy the state and the Lebanese citizens’ properties.

These two parties seek to manipulate the instincts of sectarianism, disregarding people’s lives and the fate of the country, and being only concerned with their own narrow interests. The Bloc reiterates what it had previously stated; weapons in the hands of any party other than the Lebanese Armed forces contradicts the building of a modern state, a state that has equal rights and responsibilities, a state that is immune to internal and external setbacks.

The weapons issue can only be solved away from foreign interventions, with internal dialogue, and with understanding the fears and concerns of all the parties. All those who seek foreign help to support their positions on this issue are considered factional, and do not really want to arrive to a solution, furthermore, they complicate the situation and contribute to the destruction of the country as Lebanon’s recent history clearly proves.

In conclusion: the sovereign, national, and democratic revolution continues until it achieves its goals, no matter how long that may take. The revolution will not be brought down by narrow, selfish, ugly manifestations, those manifestations will erode and will only harm those who are encouraging them.
