National Bloc: The State as the Sole Negotiating Authority

The National Bloc issued the following statement:

The National Bloc welcomes the Lebanese state’s decision to launch direct negotiations with Israel, a step that could help bring an end to the ongoing war and open the door to resolving the long-standing conflict between the two countries, particularly after the Lebanese people have endured decades of suffering. The timing of this decision also reflects the government’s renewed initiative in asserting control over the country’s fate and prioritizing national interests over regional agendas.

For the first time in more than forty years, Lebanon, through its official institutions, returns to the negotiating table as a sovereign state, rather than being treated as a bargaining chip by regional powers at the expense of its sovereignty and the interests of its people.

The National Bloc reiterates its support for the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister in this process, which serves the interests of all Lebanese. This path must aim at liberating Lebanese territories still occupied by Israel, ending its violations, enabling reconstruction and stability, facilitating the return of residents to their villages, and ensuring the disarmament of militias, chief among them Hezbollah, in order to achieve sustainable peace in Lebanon and the region.
