The National Bloc: Call for Israel's Withdrawal and Immediate Implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement

The National Bloc released the following statement:

The National Bloc strongly condemns Israel’s continuous attacks, the latest of which resulted in the killing of over 20 Lebanese and the arrest of others who were simply returning to their homes, following Israel's refusal to withdraw from Lebanese territory and comply with the ceasefire agreement.

The sight of returning citizens, however symbolic, is backed by Lebanese legitimate authorities, and is a clear proof of the deep attachment of the Lebanese people to their land, their livelihoods, and their determination to reclaim what is rightfully theirs.

We therefore call on the Lebanese government to block Israel's attempts to keep the Lebanon front open by urgently reinforcing the Lebanese Army's presence in the South and ensuring that all arms are placed solely under its command and the authority of state institutions. This is in fulfillment of its sovereign duties, as well as the Constitution, the Resolution 1701, and the ceasefire agreement it has signed. We also call on the Lebanese government to work with the guarantor states of this agreement to ensure Israel's withdrawal to beyond the international borders as soon as possible.

The deliberate circumvention of Resolution 1701 by Israel, Hezbollah, and Iran’s backing in 2006 resulted in a national disaster last year, with Lebanon and its people—especially those in the South and Beirut’s southern suburbs—bearing the full cost.

Therefore, any delay in asserting Lebanon’s sovereignty over all its territory will only lead to further security chaos, occupation, killings, and displacement.

A true and lasting return–not just a symbolic one– also requires the reconstruction of the devastated areas, which must be accompanied by international aid conditioned upon reforms.

In this regard, we call on the designated Prime Minister, in cooperation with the President, to form a reformist government as soon as possible, without yielding to political blackmail or allowing any party to exploit recent events to improve their bargaining position through divisive actions aimed at hindering the nation-building process.
