The National Bloc issued the following statement:
The National Bloc extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims who lost their lives as a result of the building collapse in the Bab al-Tabbaneh area of Tripoli, and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.
Beyond this tragedy, Tripoli is Lebanon’s second city; a cultural and architectural treasure and an inseparable part of the nation. Its people have consistently demonstrated their commitment to the rule of law and have repeatedly called on the state to fulfill its responsibilities in security and social services. The time has come for the state to reciprocate by providing Tripoli with the bare minimum of essential services, especially since no political obstacles stand in the way.
The continuation of this policy of neglect will inevitably lead to new social disasters and dangerous security and political consequences; outcomes that can still be avoided today.
The state must act before it is too late.
